TENBURY CP MARKET SQUARE (centre) SO 5868 - 5968 8/114 The Old Market Hall
GV II
Former market hall. Early to mid-C19. Brick with blue brick dressings and plain tiled conical roof with overhanging eaves on shaped brackets and raised ridge, louvred copper section with terracotta ridge tiles (and formerly with end finials). Oval plan. Single storey with chamfered plinth. Gothick style. Upper half of walls occupied by continuous row of 4-light traceried windows with square heads and projecting blue brick sill courses. There is an entrance at the south-west and north-east ends; both have cusped ogee-arched heads which are inserted into the lower part of the window. The south-west entrance has a set of double doors whilst the north-east entrance has a pair of gates. Interior: the floor is laid with blue brick herringbone paving and there are two semi-circular benches (an outer and an inner one) on cast iron supports either side of the central through-passage.
