KYRE CP - SO 66 SW 6/17 Pigeon House Farmhouse and adjoining outbuilding
- II
Farmhouse and adjoining outbuilding. Probable C14 origins, altered and extended early C17 with further mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Part sand- stone ruble, part timber-framed with brick infill on rubble base with rubble replacement walling and refacing; plain tiled roof and group of three C19 brick stacks to main ridge. Hall and cross-wing plan; hall part is rebuilding of cruck hall house and is of two main bays divided by through-passage bay which backs onto a large central chimney. There is a cross-wing of two framed bays at the west end. Two storeys. Framing: exposed at gable ends of cross-wing. North elevation has two rows of panels at first floor level and large swept braces across the upper corners. Both gable ends have collar and tie-beam trusses with four struts beneath the collar and a V-strut above. North front elevation: hall part has a 4-light ground floor casement with a cambered head, a 2-light and a 3-light first floor casement and a blocked doorway with an inserted single-light window in the through passage bay. Gable end to right has a 2-light window with an additional transom light on both floors and the main entrance which has a gabled brick porch with a Tudor archway and a partly glazed door. The gable above has a moulded pendant finial. There is a C19 wing of two storeys with an external chimney at its gable end to the rear of hall range. Interior: hall range retains central cruck truss and has a large fireplace and an oak winder staircase. Outbuilding adjoins west side of cross- wing. Timber-framed with brick and rendered infill on rubble base, part rubble with plain tiled roof. Two framed bays plus three rubble bays added in C19. Two levels. Framing: four panels from sill to wall-plate. North elevation has a ground floor C20 single-light window inserted in a blocked doorway and a 2-light window on both levels. The rubble addition has a ground floor window and a ledged and battened door. External rubble steps to rear of original part. Interior: original part has collar and tie-beam end trusses with two collars and struts and an intermediate collar and tie-beam truss with raking struts; there are two tiers of trenched purlins. The C19 addition has two intermediate sling brace trusses.
