Details
EARDISLEY CP HIGH STREET (east side) SO 3049 - 3149 7/73 The Holme 16.10.67 - II Also see under ALMELEY ROAD (south side) House. C15, altered C17, late C19 and late C20. Timber-framed with painted brick infill and replacement walling on rubble base, partly refaced in rubble and roughcast with painted brick additions; slate roofs with brick ridge stacks. Hall and cross-wing plan; hall part of probably two framed bays aligned east/west with central inserted chimney and cross-wing of three bays situated at west end. Two storeys. Framing: hall part has two rows of square panels at first floor level. No trusses visible externally. North front elevation: hall part has one ground floor and two first floor cross- casements, a C20 canted bay window with a lean-to roof, a 2-light casement with a cambered brick head and the main entrance which has a ledged and battened door and a plank weathering and continues above the adjacent window. Most windows have leaded lights. Cross-wing gable end has a first floor cross- casement and the fable retains its original bargeboards with cusped blind traceried panelling and a pendant finial. West side of cross-wing (facing HIGH STREET) has three ground and first floor cross-casements. A single storey brick wing adjoins the east end of the hall. Interior: remains of original roof construction with chamfered tie-beams recorded to have survived. The cross-wing was originally of four bays. The hall range retains some swept braces. There is also a little C17 panelling. (RCHM, III, p 55, item 29).
