Details

EYE, MORETON & SO 46 SE ASHTON CP 6/4 Eye Court Farmhouse 11.6.59 GV II Farmhouse. Late C16 north wing extended during C17, further remodelled during late C18, C20 alterations. Part timber-framed with painted brick infill and largely encased in brick and sandstone rubble, sandstone rubble plinth and stacks with brick shafts, part Welsh slate, part tiled roofs. L-shaped plan with earlier wing extending to north, and additional wing to west, axial and lateral stacks, present entrance to west front. Two and three storeys. West front: two-storey section to left with two 2-light casement windows, main house with one 3-light casement window and one similar 2-light window to left, with one similar 3-light window and a further 3-light casement window with segmental head to right. Ground floor: one 3-light casement window with brick relieving arch to left of doorway with gabled canopy and ledged door, one similar 3-light window and one 4- light casement window to right, gable end of cross-wing to right with 3- light casement window in gable; 3-light window to first floor and 4-light window to ground floor, projecting canted bay window addition to left-hand return of cross-wing. English bond brickwork to east (rear) of building with relieving arches over window openings. Interior retains some chamfered beams. (RCHM, Vol 3, p 60).
