House. C17 refronted c1760, with early C18 and mid-C19 accretions at rear. Main C17 house of red sandstone ashlar with slate double range roof, early C18 red brick with hipped, tiled roof at rear. Front range 2 rooms deep with central doorway and end stacks, rear extension projects outwards to the right and has main central stack. Gothick facade, 2 storeys & attics in gables springing from heavily moulded cornice, cellar; 3 bays each with ogee shaped gable, painted stone coping and pagoda-shaped finials; quatrefoil roundels with octofoil glazing design. The gables are linked by a parapet and further corner finials; central bay has ogee-headed window and outer bays have ogee-headed dentre light to Gothick Venetian windows all with decorative finials; sashes in all windows with Gothick glazing design; central partly glazed door has Gothick fanlight, ogee architrave with poppyhead and stepped label above; stone steps to either side with fine wrought iron railings. Right hand return has 2 shaped gables with stone mullioned windows and 2 stone cross mullioned windows with gables on the first floor and traces of one other on the ground floor. Left hand return is similar with raised verges and renewed mullioned windows and C20 conservatory with ogee-shaped roof. Large stacks to both ends with 3 star-plan shafts partly rebuilt. Early C18 brick range with hipped roof around central stair light projects to right, elevation to right has wooden cross casement windows with cambered heads, hipped central dormer and central 6-panelled door with stone steps up. Interior has fine mid-C17 oak framed newel staircase with twisted balusters intact from first floor to attic towards the rear of main range; front rooms of main range have fine late C18 stuccoed ornament. The entrance hall has Gothick cornice, Batty-Langley style marble fireplace and (? later) screen of 2 quatrefoil plain piers to fine mahogany stairs at back. Interestingly the adjoining room to west has normal late C18 plasterwork details and fire- place which may indicate that the whole remodelling is of that period - ie a late use of pattern books.
