4/72 Summer house in gardens at Parkfield

GV II

Summer house. c1870-80. Timber-framed, patterned, glazed ceramic tile infill, rendered infill to rear, brick and ashlar base, hipped slate roof, overhanging eaves on console brackets and ridge decorated with wrought ironwork. Single storey; rectangular plan with canted ends. Long rectangular panels with narrow upper panels. Front elevation facing east has a slightly projecting, low pitched gable on console brackets with decorative bracing above and below collar; central round-headed archway flanked by shorter similar archways all of carved and moulded timber; ceramic tile infill above in gable. East side lights of bays also arched and have wrought iron railings in lower open panel, upper panel has tiled infill. Interior Roof of moulded king-post truss construction with pendant. All interior panels are tiled; upper rear panels have ceramic faces of gods in circular surround inset in ceramic panels. Low wooden bench against rear and side walls with a tiled frieze beneath. Patterned tiled floor.
