SE 81 NW GARTHORPE AND LUDDINGTON ROAD FOCKERBY (north side, off) Garthorpe 4/14 Threshing barn at Duddings Farm 16.9.87 approximately 60 metres north of Homeacres

Threshing barn. Late C18 with later C18 - early C19 extension to west, and later store-room addition to south-west. Brown brick. Sandstone ashlar dressings to C19 addition. Pantile roof. Barn rectangular on plan, original section of 4½ internal bays with central through waggon entrance; extended to 6 bays, with addition at right angles to south-west corner. 2- storey height, 3 tiers of openings. South side: projecting waggon entrance has C20 harr-hung double board doors beneath timber lintel. Side bays each have 3 tiers of 5 breather slits, those to bottom tier slightly longer, apart from top tier to left which has pitching hatch and 3 slits. 3 small blocked inserted openings to lower left side associated with former horse mill. Straight joint to left extension which has pair of breather slits. Stepped eaves. Tumbled-in brick to raised gables. North side: C20 altered waggon entrance has truncated projecting brick piers carrying timber lintel with rebuilt brickwork above. Side bays have 6 breathers to each tier, with blocked hatch to top right. Outline of former adjoining gabled range to right, straight joint to extension with blocked inserted door and pair of breather slits. East gable end has 2 lower rows of 4 slits, a blocked basket-arched door above, flanked by single slits, and 3 slits to gable. West gable end has 2 rows of 3 slits, with a pair of slits to gable. South- west lean-to addition has round-chamfered round-headed entrance to south with board door beneath dentilled eaves cornice; left and right returns have single windows with iron bars, tooled ashlar sills and lintels with pairs of breather slits above. Interior. Roof to original section of barn has main trusses with broad king posts and raking struts to principal rafters carrying 2 tiers of bracketed through-purlins, and intermediate collared principal rafters. West extension has plain king-post roof with pegged staggered butt-purlins.
