SK 79 NE HAXEY BRACKENHILL ROAD (south side) East Lound 14/98 Lound Tree Farmhouse 15.7.87 - II

Farmhouse. 1787. Red brick with pantile roof. Double-depth plan with 2-room, central entrance-hall west front. Gable end to street. 2 storeys with attic, 3 bays; symmetrical. 5-fielded-panel door (3 vertical over 2 horizontal panels) and plain overlight beneath segmental stretcher arch. C19 4-pane sashes in original C18 flush wooden architraves with sills beneath segmental stretcher arches. Similar first-floor windows beneath original soldier arches. Stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice. Tumbled-in brick to raised gables. End stacks, C20 rebuild to right, rendered to left. Left gable end has 12-pane sliding sash, blocked attic doorway beneath segmental arch, and wrought-iron letters and figures:

Rear, facing foldyard: central 6-fielded-panel door flanked by 12-pane sliding sash to left, 3-light sliding sash with glazing bars to right, all beneath segmental arches. First floor: large central board door beneath segmental arch, with 12-pane sliding sash to left. Interior retains original features; not investigated. One of the least altered late C18 farmhouses in the Isle of Axholme.
