22/117 Cross base at junction of Low Street and Haxey Lane

GV II

Cross base. Medieval, with C20 refacing to base. Limestone ashlar; brick facing to base. 2 square stone steps, with C20 refacing below, carrying drum pedestal with square-section foot and broach stops to octagonal upper section, much worn, with hollow socket for former shaft. Three C20 vertical iron straps attached to sides. Associated with the traditional "Haxey Hood" custom, see No 22/104 for references.
