GV II
Offices. Late C18, probably by John Carr. Red brick, graduated slate roof. U-shaped plan with extensions to rear. 2 storeys. Main range of 8 bays 3:3:2. Central 3 bays break forward under low pediment with round-headed recesses rising through full height of building. Boarded door under rectangular fanlight with glazing bars to left. Unequal hung sashes with glazing bars to ground floor, centre pivoted windows with glazing bars to first floor. All openings have gauged brick flat arches. Dentilled eaves cornice, dentilled cornice to pediment. Tall axial stacks. This building almost certainly conceals an earlier gabled range shown in a drawing of 1720 by Samuel Buck. Samuel Buck's Yorkshire Sketch Book, (Introduction by Ivan Hall), Wakefield Historical Publications, 1979.
