Details
SUNK ISLAND SUNK ISLAND ROAD TA 21 NE (east side) 10/88 Stable/granary range on west side of foldyard approximately 30 metres north-west of Church Farmhouse GV II Stable/granary range. 1856 by S S Teulon for the Crown Commissioners. Banded orange-brown and red brick. Pantile roof. Rectangular on plan, with central low 2-storey, 2-bay stable/granary flanked by single-storey 4-bay stables; forms west side of foldyard. West side: central section has 3 ground-floor 2-light casements, 2 first-floor board doors; flanking ranges have single rows of pipe breathers below eaves. Stepped eaves, tumbled- in brick to gables. Right return has double board doors beneath segmental pointed arch; left return has board door beneath segmental arch. East side has series of segmental-headed doors and hatches; not fully investigated. One of a series of mid-C19 Crown estate buildings by Teulon. See item 6/76 for sources. Included for group value.
