17/35 No 55 (Churchgates) (formerly listed as 2.5.75 Church Gates)

GV II

House. C17 origins, raised to 2 storeys in C18, extended to left in C19- C20; C20 renovations. Roughly-coursed limestone rubble with brick stacks and tumbling to right gable, brick dressings and brick addition to first floor left; colour-washed throughout. Pantile roof. Plan: 3 rooms with lobby entry to left, and single-room addition to left. 2 storeys, 4 first- floor windows. Quoins. C20 fielded-panel door flanked by two 16-pane sashes to right and two 12-pane sliding sashes to left beneath wedge lintels. First floor: 12-pane sliding sashes with lintels at eaves level. All windows C20, those to first floor in brick surrounds. C20 moulded wooden eaves board. Axial and end stacks. Right gable end contains profile of original single-storey tumbled brick gable.
