Railway viaduct. 1847. For York and North Midland Railway Company,
East Riding Lines. Engineer, J C Birkenhead. Contractors for ironwork,
Gilkes, Williamson and Company, Middlesbrough. Red brick with ashlar
dressings, cast iron. 10 round land arches to south and 5 to north
with elliptical cast-iron river arch between. To land arches: ashlar
impost bands, ashlar band above, low parapet with ashlar coping. River
arch has trellis work to spandrels, timber deck, and cast-iron balustrade.
Viaduct crosses into North Yorkshire. Parish of Gate Helmsley.
