TQ 67 SE SHORNE FORGE LANE 2/149 14.3.73 St Katherine's House GV II
Originally a mid C19 house with extensions circa 1890. The front elevation consists of a mid C19 left side portion of 2 storeys flint faced with stone dressings and long and short quoins. Three parallel ranges. Tiled roof with ridge tiles 4 mullioned and transomed casements. Central door with a hipped tiled weather porch with moulded brick finial. This is supported on wooden piers. The right side portion is circa 1890. Two storeys, the ground floor of flint and brick, the first'floor pebbledashed. Hipped tiled roof, casement windows. To the extreme right is a stone trefoliated window with wooden moulding above. On the side elevation of this portion there is a triple trefoliated window. The right part of the rear elevation is 2 and 4 storeys, flint faced with stone quoins and window dressings. Tiled roof with some curved tiles and moulded brick finials. Irregular fenestration. Second floor has one circular window, otherwise mullioned and transomed casements. String courses between second and third floors. The interior of the older portion of the convent has exposed beams with chamfered eges and a wooden staircase having balusters with trefoliated heads and a newel post with chamfered edges. Included for group value with St Katherine's Chapel.
