2/5 The Manor House
II
House. Late C16 or early C17 with later outshut, cased in brick and extended to rear in early C18, refronted c1840. Timber-frame, brick, pantiled roofs. Now central direct entry with rear wing: originally probably hearth-passage plan. Main elevation of 3 bays, 2 storeys. Early C19 door under oblong fanlight with consoles supporting cornice flanked by 4-pane sashes. Identical 4-pane sashes to 1st floor. Interior: rear wall of main range retains full frame: small exposed area shows wall-post with rail, close-studding, raking struts, and brick nogging. A pointed timber doorway, now concealed, may have been the rear access to the cross-passage.
