HAWKHURST HIGHGATE HILL TQ 7430-7530 (west side) 16/333 Lorenden 11.8.88

GV II House. C16, extended C18, and altered and clad mid C19. Timber framed and rendered with tile hung and red brick rear wing. Plain tiled roof. Front eleva- tion treated in Gothic cottage style. Two storeys and attic on plinth with moulded string course and gables to left and to right with pierced and moulded bargeboards with stack projecting at end right and central moulded stack. Trian- gular and moulded headed gable casements, and two 4-light mullioned and transomed windows on ground floor. Central half-glazed moulded panelled door with trian- gular fanlights and triangular headed side lights in gabled porch with pierced and moulded bargeboards with flight of 5 steps and sidewalls. Interior: full framed interior visible, with quirk-and-tongue stopped-chamfered cross-beamed ceilings. Side purlin with wind brace roof and Queen post roof to cross wing at right. Probably continuously jettied with cross wing originally. Vaulted passage through central stack. Cellar lined in English bond brick.
