Details

GOUDHURST BALCOMBES HILL TQ 7237-7337 (south east side) 15/68 Whites GV II House. 1905, built by Davis and Leavey, builders of Goudhurst. Red brick with painted wooden details and with plain tiled roof. Neo-Georgian style. Entrance front: 2 storeys, with plinth, brick quoins and moulded modillion eaves cornice to three-span roof, with central open pediment shaped gable flanked by projecting hipped wings with stacks to left, rear centre left (on garden front cross-range) and to right; and to left is projecting outbuilding. Central stair window with narrow glazing bar sash to left on first floor, and 2 on each floor to right. Central panelled door in moulded brick surround. Single storey range projecting to left and to left return (with catslide outshut to main range). Three-bay side elevations, with glazing bar sashes with louvred shutters. Garden front: main formal elevation, with 2 storeys and attic, with plinth, brick quoins and moulded wooden modillion eaves cornice to hipped roof with 3 hipped dormers. Regular fenestration of 3 glazing bar sashes on first floor and 2 on ground floor, all with louvred shutters. Central half-glazed door in doubled columned porch with cornice. Interior: sales particulars shows oak panelled entrance hall, panelled dining room and turned baluster dog-leg stair.
