War Memorial
GV II
War Memorial. c.1920, Sculptor Albert Toft, cast at Albion Art
Foundry, Parsons Green. Bronze seated statue of female in
flowing robes, leaning on a shield and holding laurel wreath
in her left hand on rectangular stepped stone plinth about 7
feet 6 inches long. Inscription on bronze plaque at the top of
the plinth reads "To the memory of the men of Benenden who
fought and died for justice and liberty in the Great War
1914-18. Their name liveth for evermore". On a bronze plaque
below are inscribed the names of local men who died in the 1st
World War and below those who died in the Second World War.
