Pympe Manor
II*
House. c.1500 Wealden hall-house extended to rear in C18 and
restored and extended in 1920s. Timber-framed building,
close-studded with plaster infilling. 1st floor oversails on
bressumer and the protruding ends of the floor joists. The end
bays are lower than the centre which has massive curved braces
at its angles. Steeply pitched tiled roof with later C16
stepped brick chimneystack. 3 bay hall with 1 bay wings. 2
storeys; 4 windows. Mainly C20 mullion windows with leaded
lights; 1 hipped dormer. Corner post with dragon beam. 4
centred arched doorway with original plank door. Rear has C18
extension and C20 L-wing. Interior retains 3 arched service
doorways. Inserted roll-moulded spine beam with run out stops.
Right side ground floor room has late C16 4 centred arched
stone fireplace. Moulded octagonal crown post with 4 head
braces. Principal chamber has arched brace roof. Traces of
cambed pargetting in a scrolled pattern.
