Details
LAMBERHURST NEILLS ROAD TQ 63 NE (east side) 3/199 Neills Cottage 17-7-1987 II
House. C16 or earlier, altered and extended C16-C17. Timber framed and clad with red and blue chequered brick on sandstone base with tile hung first floor. Plain tiled roof. L-shaped plan of 2 builds. Roadside elevation of 2 storeys with 2 storey and attic crosswing. Hipped roof with gablet to right with projecting gable to left. Stacks to end left and clustered at end right. Three light wooden casement to gable, and two 3 light casements on first floor with 2 light to right and three 3 light casements on ground floor. Central C20 gabled porch with casement and boarded door in left side.Catslide outshot to left and extended along left return elevation, extending downslope to rear elevations with sandstone semi-basement and late C20 extension. Interior: the 2 wings clearly of 2 builds and framed at right angles, the left hand wing with massive posts and ogee bracing and clasped purlin roof with diminished principals, originally jettied to roadside, and with blocked mullioned window and doorway on first floor, possibly to lost interior garderobe. Right hand section has been suggested as later addition, but may be earliest phase somewhat altered. Inglenook fireplaces.
