Details

RAMSGATE KING STREET TR 3865 SW (north-west side) 9/239 No. 56/58 (Chatham Arms) II Public house. Early Cl9, altered later C19. Painted brick and slate roof. Two storeys and attic, with rounded corner piece, double semi- dormer to left and flat roofed dormer to right and stacks to left and to right. Two glazing bar sashes to left return, 2 to corner block and 2 sashes to right on first floor. Glazing bar sash and half-glazed and panelled door with semi-circular surround to left return, half-glazed door and mullioned and transomed window with cornice and panelled apron to corner block, and half-glazed door and mullioned window to right on ground floor with boarded passage door to end right. The corner block at least is shown on Collard and Hurst's 1822 map of Ramsgate, and was kept as a school for 37 years in the C19 before becoming a public house. (See Busson, Ramsgate, 99).
