Free standing wall monuments to Mayhew/Garrett families. Late C18 and
early C19. Stock brick wall, rendered, with stone plaques and iron
rails. Five pedimented plaques with Coats of Arms in pediments, 2
with incised Doric pilasters, 3 with fluted Ionic pilasters set against
a rendered wall, about 6 feet high and 20 feet long, with a paved
forecourt, enclosed with spear-headed rails with urn finialed principals
(some panels missing, but lying against the monuments). Chest tomb to
Thomas Lindsey jnr, d.1810, about 5 metres west of Mayhew/Garret
monument. Moulded base with large baluster corner piers, reeded and
incised panels and moulded and inscribed top slab with Arms. Railed.
Tomb chest about 3 metres south of Mayhew/Garrett monument, with
large baluster corner piers and moulded oval incised side panels.
Top slab inscribed, but illegible, with Arms. Spear headed rails with
urn finial principals, slightly damaged by tree growth. Wall monument
to Hannah Goatley, d.1749, restored 1931 by Rev. George Henniker-Gotley.
Brick tabernacle background , originally rendered, with marble monument,
with simple apron, inscription plaque, fluted pilasters and triglyph
frieze to cornice, with obelisk background and urn finial to relief of
2 putti lifting drapes falling from baldacchino from Arms cartouche.
Tomb chest to George Rainier Jnr. d.1762, about 5 metres east of
Mayhew/Garrett monument. Moulded plinth to chest with squat creeded
and fluted baluster corner piers, with chamfered curving raised and
fielded side panels and moulded top slab inscribed and with relief of
flaming urn and olive branch. Originally railed. Railed tomb chest
about 5 metres east of Mayhew/Garrett monument. Early C19. Chamfered
plinth, with quatrefoil frieze to cusped pointed arcaded side panels
with moulded top slab. Spiked rails with lobed spiked principals.
Tomb chest to Elizabeth Countess Dowager of Huntingdon (d.1846, adjacent
to the last. Unrailed, on platform, with cusped arcaded side panels
and moulded and inscribed top slab. Listing NGR: TR3698465306
