Details

1. 5273 WICKHAMBREAUX STODMARSH ROAD (north-west side) Stodmarsh Stodmarsh Court Farmhouse TR 26 SW 5/693

2. This is a large house of which the east and some of the interior date from the late C16, but the whole of the main portion, including the south front was rebuilt in the C19 in Jacobean style. Two storeys and attics red brick. Tiled roof. Casement windows. The east front is half H-shaped. The south wing has a massive brick chimneybreast and a plain gable. The north wing has a shaped Dutch gable and also, on its north wall, a smaller brick chimneybreast. The main front facing south, which is C19 has 2 storeys and attics, 8 windows and 3 shaped gables. Simple doorcases. The east wing contains a fine C17 well staircase having newel post with oak ball finial. Some C16 black and white wall paintings on plaster were removed from this house in 1914 and are now in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
