Tented verandah across whole first floor, with simple scrolls to piers and Gothick panelled rails. Two central doors of 6 raised and fielded panels the top 2 glazed, in fluted surrounds, and boarded door to left in C20 single storey porch. Simple rails to basement areas with urn finial principals. Left return (to Royal Road); 4 storeys with irregularly spaced glass. Ionic pilasters to cornice parapet and stacks to left. Half-glazed door in moulded surround to centre left, with different storey levels to right hand section. Half-glazed door in moulded surround to centre left. The facade treatment of pilaster and cornice runs over the adjacent number 1 + 3 Royal Road, and is taken from the decorative motifs of the rest of Royal Road (laid out 1827-36), and disguises the earlier construction of these buildings, possibly still the 1802 structures built for James Townley. See Busson 108-9.
