ROYAL ESPLANADE (south side)
Bowls Pavilion

GV
II
Sports pavilion (bowls). 1928-29 by Basil C. Deacon of Franklin and Deacon of Luton, altered late C20. Painted and rendered brickwork, with boarded iron-framed extension. In origin identical to the adjacent croquet pavilion, with a front arcaded in antis topped with cornice, balustrade and flag pole, and flanked with flights of steps. Projecting from centre an iron-framed and boarded single-storey flat roofed extension, with central double doors. All windows boarded (for winter season). The arcade remains intact and unaltered behind the C20 extension, which does not structurally alter the original building.

Part of the Westcliff improvements undertaken by Franklin and Deacon of Luton, and included for group value.
