HARRIETSHAM EAST STREET TQ 85 SE (south west side)

4/32 Borden Cottages 1 and 2 GV II No. 1: House. Early C17. with early-to-mid C19 alterations. Timber framed. Front elevation chequered red and grey brick, rear tile-hung ground floor fist floor. Plain tile roof. Lobby entry plan of 4 bays including stack bay. Left end bay possibly rebuilt slightly later. 2 storeys on short stone plinth. Roof hipped to left and continuous with no. 2 to right. Brick ridge stack towards left end and another at right end shared with No. 2. Irregular fene- stration of one long blind window from eaves to top of front door and 2 glazing-bar sashes in open boxes. Blocked ground-floor window to left of stack and glazing-bar sashes below first floor windows, all with segmental heads. Panelled door with flatcorniced hood beneath stack. Short C19 rear lean-to to left. Interior: Exposed timbers. Iron range. No. 2: Possibly coach-house and stables, now house. Late C18. Chequered red and grey brick, plaintile roof. Pro- jects slightly forward from No.1. 2 storeys on brick plinth. One C19 2-light casement to left. One 3-light ground-floor casement with segmental head to right. Blocked door under first floor window. Further door to rear. Interior not inspected.
