5/92 Monument to Best family circa 20 yards east of chancel of Church of St Mary and All Saints

Monument. Early C19. Stone on stepped stone base. Large square monument with moulded plinth and corniced lid. Side panels recessed, reeded at base, fluted above on small moulded plinth. Central panels fielded with concave corners on top of lid, towards centre, rests a square 2-tier plinth, the base moulded, the top, smaller than the base and rising from it on a short broad concave stem, decorated with an egg and dart variant. On the west side an escutcheon rests in the slope of the stem. Vase standing on the 2-tier plinth has acanthus leaves round the base of the cup with fluting above and a projecting.ribbonqd floral lip. Knob of lid is set with projecting "eggs". The whole formerly surrounded by railings. Every side closely inscribed to memory of large numbers of Best family with dates of death from early C19 onwards.
