ROCHESTER HIGH STREET TQ 7468 SE (EASTGATE) 10/149 Nos 153, 155 and 157 27.9.90 GV II Formerly 3 houses, now 3 shops. Mid C18, considerably altered. Timber framed; corrugated asbestos gambel roofs (3 ranges set end-on to street). 3 brick stacks, one to each ridge. All walls are now covered by applied plastered cladding with mock framing, wich replaces weatherboarding. 3 storeys. Front: 4-window range (1:1:2). Except for No 153 (2nd floor) all windows with flush surrounds and moulded cornices; all except for No 155 (2nd floor, 6 pane sash) with C20 replacement casements. Wooden modillion cornice. Shop fronts: late C19 to No 153, the fascia with end console brackets, C20 with plate glass window to No 155, and c.1900-style front to No 157 which returns right, into Almon Place. Right return also shares a late C20 plate glass shop front with glazed entrance with No 157A (not included in this listing). Rear treated as front with cladding and C20 windows. This building is included despite the C20 alterations because of the surviving timber frame.
