Details
ROCHESTER HIGH STREET St TQ 7467 NE Margaret's Banks) 12/96 Nos 296 and 298 20.3.72 GV II Two houses, now offices. C17 in part, considerably altered late C20. Timber-framed with brick end walls and underbuilding; weatherboarding to 1st floor throughout (all re-clad in 1980s); Kent-tile gabled-end roofs. Front range (each house separately roofed) with rear wings. 2 storeys and attic. Front: entirely rebuilt in 1980s 4-window range (2:2) 2-light hipped dormer to No 298. 12-pane horned sashes in revealed frames to 1st floor. 1st floor jettied and supported on corbelled brick piers. 2 shop fronts with barred windows. Rear wing has a jettied 2nd floor gabled attic room with a 2-light casement, and a canted oriel supported by C17 caryatid brackets; otherwise the windows are sashes in revealed frames and casements, all renewed. Ridge stack. Interior not fully inspected but appears to have a few remaining contemporary features to ground-floor.
