Details
ROCHESTER HIGH STREET TQ 7468 7/121 No 73 23.8.74 GV II House with shop. Possibly C16, re-modelled in the late C17 with C18 front recently completely rebuilt. Brick front, timber- framed to rear; Kent tile roof. Front room to ground floor has ceiling beam and large joists that could be C16 and these may be coeval with a diamond-mullioned window to the rear (not internal); all other features are c.1700 or later. The rear wings have a complicated history and represent two or three building phases. Front (rebuilt in replica); 3 storey; symmetrical 2 window range with 3-light dormer. 12-pane hornless sash windows to upper floors, and early C19 style double fronted shop. Rear wings under asbestos or concrete tiled roofs. Interior: front room with ceiling cross beam and substantial joists; framing to rear with mortices for a diamond-mullioned window. Rear wing (to W) with early (possibly Cl7) framing and ceiling beams, all difficult to interpret. 1st floor: front room with complete set of large fielded panels; almost complete dog- leg stairs with turned balusters and square-section newels - all this looks c.1700. To the rear of this room is a fireplace with brick hood and an earlier chamfered bressumer.
