Details

WHICHAM A595 SD 18 SE (south side) 15/77 Chappels Farmhouse and barn - II House and barn. Late Cl7 or early C18 with C18 or early C19 barn. Stone rubble with slate roofs, house painted. North-west elevation has house of 2 storeys and 2 bays, 2nd bay taller, part of barn. Ground floor has large window to 1st bay with small-paned fixed glazing and opening light; 2nd bay has sashed window with glazing bars in former wide segmental-headed entrance; sashed windows with glazing bars to lst floor. Entrance to 1st bay has 6-fielded panel door. Barn has segmental-headed cow house entrance and window; blocked winnowing door. South-east elevation has entrance up ramp with flanking 2-storey outshuts under catslide roofs; gabled wing with lean-to outshut. House has entrance in recess, sashed windows, single storey gabled wing extends as lean-to outshut to return. Gable-end brick stack. Barn has fishbone trusses and winnowing machinery.
