Large house, now Outward Bound School. Dated 1896 on panel over door; some rainwater heads dated 1901. By A. Huddart of Whitehaven for James H. Rea (initials on dated panel). Tower is later addition. Coursed, squared rubble with sandstone details. Graduated slate roofs have stone ridges, copings, and kneelers; stone chimneys (some projecting). Asymmetrical plan. Main house 2 storeys with full-height porch and canted bay; 3-storey tower. Sandstone quoins and string-courses; blocking course to house roof, castellated parapet to tower. 4-centred outer porch opening; scattered fenestration in chamfered stone-mullioned surrounds.
