14/42 Barn & gin-gang to south-east of Hall Santon farmhouse

G.V. II

Large ramp barn, incorporating byres and dovecote, with adjoining gin-gang. Barn dated 1847, with initials I. & G.E., on lintel to central byre door; gin-gang probably slightly later. Snecked rubble with rough-dressed sandstone details; chamfered eaves to barn. Graduated slate roofs (gin-gang part Welsh slate); barn has stone ridge with 2 vents. Barn 2½ storeys, 5 bays with full-height wing adjoining to rear at north end; tall gin-gang, semicircular in plan, projects from north side of wing. 3 plank doors to ground floor on west elevation; central and left hand doors have window to either side. 2 loft doors above with 12 dovecote holes between (3 x 4); 4 vent-slits under eaves imitate medieval loop-lights. Trefoil owl-holes in gables. Ramp entrance to rear. Gin-gang has tall entrance at junction with wing; openings around circumference are blocked.
