Details

GOUDHURST MARDEN ROAD TQ 74 SW (east side) 1/219 Stream Farm II House. C15, extended C16 or C17 and C20. Timber framed and exposed with plaster infill, with same C17 Header Bond red brick to ground floor. Plain tiled roof. Hall house origin, now L-shaped range. Two storeys with portion of sandstone plinth beneath brickwork at right. Roof, gabled at end right with projecting stack hipped with gablet to left return, and stacks to centre left and at rear left. Four light leaded wooden casements with smaller side lights, partly infilled, to left and to centre right, with 2 light casements to centre left and to right on 1st floor, and 4 irregular wooden casements on ground floor with glazed door to left, centre right and right return. Outshot and single storey extensions to right. Left return with irregular leaded wooden case- ments. Interior: moulded ceiling beams, beaded and moulded inglenook bressum- mers, moulded, mullioned windows and hooks suspended from upper floor ceiling (for skeins of wool etc - connected with weaving industry). Queen post roof. The interior framing suggests the close studded central sections are the earliest, with small, panel framed cross-wing added to left C16, and late C20 additions to end right.
