SK 18 NE PARISH OF HOPE WOODLANDS SNAKE ROAD 14/20 (North Side) Rowlee Farmhouse and boundary wall GV II
Farmhouse. 1849. Coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings. Chamfered plinth, angle quoins. Slate roofs with stone coped gables with kneelers. Stone gable end stacks, on the west gable a pair of tall polygonal chimneys. Two storeys, double pile. South elevation. Double fronted with central bay advanced and gabled, in the gable a shield dated 1849. Recessed central porch with Tudor arch and chamfered surround and returned label. Flanked on each side by glazing bar sashes with returned labels and projecting sills and pseudo brackets. Three similar windows above. To the south a low curved boundary wall with iron railings and gate piers. This house like most of the farms in the valley was built by the Dukes of Devonshire.
