The Reade Memorial
II
Memorial. 1827. Commemorates John Thurlow Reade who died while serving in India, likely Sehaarunpore, now Saharunpur. Stone. Square plan with stepped plinth and box forming the mass of the memorial capped with steep pyramid on cill with indented course near the apex. One face of box inscribed:

ESQUIRE
SEHAARUNPORE
NOVEMBER 25TH A.D. 1827
ALAS MY BROTHER
Special interest as an early-C19 stone memorial to a Briton who died while serving in India and whose family designed the Grade II Maharaja Well at Stoke Row, Oxfordshire later in the C19.
