Details

PARISH OF EDENSOR JAPP LANE SK 24/2569-24/2570 7/126 (East Side) House North of the Yews GV II House. c1830-40, probably by Paxton and Robertson. Coursed squared sandstone and ashlar. Plain tile hipped and gabled roof. Bracketed eaves. Pair of lateral ashlar stacks. Heavy moulded plinth, plain first and second floor bands. Two and three storeys. West elevation of three bays. Broad gabled bay to left has a 4-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, with similar 2-light window above. To the right a narrow recessed bay with tall thin lancet staircase window with moulded hoodmould. Blind rectangular window above, beneath a pointed shaped gable. To the right again a three storey canted bay with, to the ground floor, a 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, similar 2-light window above, with triangular headed lights, and a wooden cross window above again, with triangular headed lights under a single triangular headed recessed and chamfered surround. Single storey porch to north and glazing bar sashes to rear. Built as part of the picturesque model village by Paxton for the Sixth Duke of Devonshire.
