II
Late C19, perhaps c1880, the coachhouse is probably c1850. Restored. Ashlar with
quoins and flat band slate roof. Two storeys, 9 bays, 1.3.1.3.1, the
outer bays have triangular pediments, the centre bay a segmented one. Central
rusticated archway, window above. All windows are 2-light stone mullioned casement.
Two tall stacks in centre of roof. At right angles at the east end is a 4 bay
coachhouse. Ashlar. Four tall round headed arches with keyed heads, cornice,
parapet. Pairs of panelled doors and blind panelled fanlights over. South wall
ashlar with blank windows rear wall brick. Roof not visible. Rusticated gate pier
cap at south-west corner of coachhouse (see item 1/133).
This building has been attributed to the early C17 and Webb has been suggested as
architect. Given the mechanical finish of the stonework this is unlikely.
