2. 1887. Architect Sir Ernest George, patron Lord Redesdale of Batsford Park. An early example of the free Tudor style. Two storeys in golden, ashlar quality rubble. Six bays. Cotswold stone roof with coped verges, finials and footstones. Moulded eaves. Low diagonal buttresses; cill string to first floor. The roof is distinguished by 2 asymmetrical features: a clock turret on the ridge with pinnacles and crown bracing to a small cupola, and a tall crenellated lateral stack rising from a gable over a sundial on the East front. In 2 parts: south part with 3 centred arches to ground floor, 4 to east, 2 to south, blocked and containing 3 light mullion windows, one open on south end. The north section more domestic with 2-light Tudor-head windows. On first floor 3 similar windows of 4 lights across the east front and 2 tall ones to south gable of 2 lights and with 2 transoms. Redesdale arms in carved panel to south. North and west fronts similar. Crested gutter and lead rainwater heads. Interior: ground floor divided by posts for each bay, arcaded staircase with turned balusters and straight string to south-west corner. The first floor room is of 6 bays with arch-braced trusses and crested wall-plate to open ceiling. French Renaissance-style corbelled fireplace with radiused cornes and carved panel with Redesdale arms. Gallery to south. Panelled dado. Armorial glass.
