3/10 AVENING Westfield Barn
II
Field barn and adjoining cow shelter to east. Early C18. Rubble stone, quoins, Cotswold stone slate roof. Barn of 3 bays of collar and tie beam trusses, with trenched purlins and wind bracing. Projecting gabled cart entry to south with double timber doors, pitch hole in west gable, and small ground floor entrance to north under wooden lintel. Single storey cow shelter to right has enclosed bay on left then 2 bays with central cylindrical stone pier. The shelter turns the corner to the south and has a double Roman tile roof supported on 3 plain wooden piers, and there is a similar shelter on west side. A wall to the south completes a yard. These latter features not of special interest.
