2. This is the cottage most usually said to be the one where Charles Dickens and Kate Hogarth spent their honeymoon in 1836. Early C19. 2 storeys faced with weatherboarding. Tiled roof. 2 sashes with glazing bars intact. Doorcase with small flat hood over supported on brackets. 4 panelled door. Over this is a tablet with a mask of Dickens and the inscription "Charles Dickens, Born 1812, Died 1870 spent his honeymoon in this house (1836). Here also were written some early chapters of "Pickwick".
