Former lodge to Goldings (listed in Hertford Civil Parish, East Herts
District), now a private dwelling. 1871-7 by G. Devey for R.A. Smith.
Red brick with brown brick diapering, stone dressings, part roughcast
with sham timber framing. Tiled roof. Domestic Revival Style. 1 storey
and attic. T shaped ridge. Gable end to road has a chamfered 4 centred
arched opening to an open passage to a vertical panelled 4 centred
arched door. Left side of passage has a larger 4 centred arched opening,
slit window inside passage. To far right a stone mullioned 2 light
casement with inner hollow and outer chamfer mouldings. First floor 3
light casement projecting on corbels under a projecting attic with sham
framing, tension braces, moulded collar and bargeboards, shaped stone
corbels at ends. Set back to left a ground floor 3 light casement, upper
sham framing. Left gable end ground floor canted stone mullioned bay
window, brackets to sham framing above. 3 lights in attic, bargeboards.
Stack on taller lateral ridge. Stack to rear left with 2 diagonal
shafts. Right return has a small gable towards front, tripartite stone
mullioned window, coved to upper framing. Attached lean-tos towards
rear. Interior not inspected. (Pevsner 1977).
