HERTINGFORDBURY LOWER HATFIELD ROAD TL 20 NE (North side) 7/66 Water Hall Farm House 20.10.52 - II
House. Early C16, extended C18, altered C20. Timber frame extended in red brick, rendered. Tiled roofs. 3 bay lobby entry with parallel range added to rear. 2 storeys. Original entrance front is now to garden facing River Lea. Double doors to right of centre, flanking 3 light small pane flush frame casements. Broad left bay. Comb pargetting and painted render imitating large panel framing. First floor central single diamond leaded light, flanking 3 light small pane casements. Large C16 axial ridge stack, bead moulding below cornice to main stack, 6 clustered diagonal shafts. 2 light casements in gable ends. C18 range to rear is slightly lower. 3 bays to present entrance front, ground floor brick, first floor rendered entrance in later gabled porch to right of centre, 2 light small pane casements. Internal end stack to right, red brick gable end. Interior: early C16 stone fireplace, a Tudor arch flattened at springing, richly moulded square head and jambs, stopped to plain chamfered base, blank shields and vine trails in spandrels. Stop chamfered cross axial bearers. (Pevsner 1977).
