BENGEO RURAL CHELSING TL 31 NW Wadesmill 4/3 - Chelsing Farm House 20.10.52 - II
House. Mid C17, extended C18, cased and extended early C19. Timber frame, cement rendered, stock brick to front and rear. Tiled roofs. Originally probably L shaped on plan with broad 4 bay through passage front range with 2 bay wing to rear right, later dairy wing to rear left. 2 storeys and attic. To left of centre a C19 brick porch projects with a small pane fixed window to front. Entrance in right return with a half glazed door, cambered head. Diagonally set brick course to parapet. Recessed glazing bar sashes, ground floor right slightly cambered heads, ground floor left and first floor gauged brick flat arched heads. Boxed eaves. 3 early gabled dormers with small pane horizontal sliding sashes. Multiform axial ridge stack in early red brick to right of centre where main ridge meets ridge of rear wing. Left end internal stack has a stock brick cap with extruded C18 red brick on rendered gable end. Right gable end has an entrance with an early C19 trellissed open porch, slender iron colonnettes with traceried spandrels to arches. Set back slightly on right return is rendered 2 bay rear wing. Ground floor 3 light small pane casements, first floor sash and 2 light small pane casements, all flush frames. Boxed eaves. A gabled dormer with 2 light small pane casements. Stock brick rear gable end with an internal stack. To rear left is a lower 2 storey 2 bay dairy wing with small pane timber and iron flush frame casements. Rear gable end brick with a ground floor blind opening, internal stack. Entrance in inner return. To rear of main range is a part C18 outbuilding, raised in C20. 2 plank doors, 2 light small pane casements, ground floor cambered heads. Interior not inspected. (RCHM Typescript).
