Details
SOUTHROP SOUTHROP VILLAGE SP 1903-2003 14/228 The Swan Inn II Inn. Late C18. Random rubble limestone; ashlar and rendered chimneys; stone slate roof, Welsh slate to rear. Two-storey with attic; two-storey part at east end; single-storey wing at west end converted from stables. Front: 3-window fenestration, all timber casements with horizontal glazing bar and timber lintels. Doorway with timber lintel to right of centre with recessed 6-panel door. Central eaves-mounted gabled roof dormer. Two ridge- mounted chimneys, right with moulded cap. Right part has single ground floor segmental arched casement; casement with timber lintel above. West side: single-window fenestration to front range, blocked to upper floor. One C19 and three C20 casements in former stables range to left. Interior not inspected. Important position next to village green. Recorded as an inn since 1843. (N.M. Herbert, 'Southrop' in V.C.H. Glos vii, 1981, pp. 129-136)
