2/121 Barn c17m north of Whalley Farm GV II
Barn. Dated and initialled 'R.H.M. MDCCXL' on stone over double width door on east side (viewed from inside), stone left of door at same height as the former with date 1740. Coursed squared and finely dressed limestone, wood shingles on roof. 'T'-shaped plan with centrally placed projecting porch on west side. Flat- chamfered plinth projecting gabled porch on west side with clamp buttresses with offsets flush with facade. Double plank doors within segmental-headed flat-chamfered arched surround. Two-light stone-mullioned window above arch. Plank door giving access to loft in right-hand wall, formerly reached by wooden stairs. Ventilation slits either side of projecting porch. Double plank doors within segmental-headed surround opposite porch, boarded over ventilation slits either side. Pitching window in south gable end. Ventilation slits in both gable ends. Circular owl hole towards apex of north gable end. Flat gable end coping with roll-cross saddles, weathervane at south gable end. Interior: 5 bays, original roof trusses replaced by king post trusses with double butt purlins.
