5/45 The Gazebo
GV II
Former summerhouse in grounds of The Manor House (q.v.), now house;
ground floor converted to chapel mid C20, now house. Early C18. Coursed
squared and dressed limestone with large quoins, stone slate roof.
Square plan. Two storeys with bank up to first floor height on
east. Central C20 plank door on east side. C20 plate-glass
windows and glazed door inserted at ground floor level in left-hand
wall. Two-light C19-C20 stone-mullioned window above. Blocked
double width entrance in rear wall with C20 casement inserted in
blocking. Ground floor formerly contained two C14 windows, brought
from Devon (now removed), some traces of wall paintings below
stairs remaining from phase of use as chapel. Shown on Kip's
engraving of The Manor House, Atkyn's Gloucestershire, c1710.
