II
Large country house. Originally built c1680 for Samuel Saunders, south west range added c1790 by Thomas Saunders, other ranges added in late C19. Rubble stone, partly coursed with flush quoins, Cotswold stone-slate roof with multiple stone stacks. Complex plan with 2 gabled ranges to north and long range across south. Mainly 2 storeys. South west wing has coped gables with cross finials and parapet wall with vestigial castellations, central canted bay with elaborate tracery in Geometric style, one 2-light leaded casement with flanking slit windows to each side on 1st floor and two 2-light mullion and transom stone windows on ground floor. South wing of C19 in C17 style with one projecting gable to right and 2 flush gables to left. 6 stone mullion windows of differing sizes under continuous dripmould on 1st floor, mullion and transom windows to ground floor. Some beams remaining in oldest section interior. (VCH, Gloucestershire, Vol XI, 1976)
