Estate cottage. Late C19. By Sir Ernest George and Peto for Lord
Redesdale. Coursed squared and dressed limestone. Thin limestone
slate roof with limestone gable coping and eaves cornice. Cement
rendered brick stack. L-shaped plan: main body with principal
gable left, outshut at rear. Main body: 2 storeys. One windowed;
2-light stone-mullioned window in principal gable with 4-light
canted bay below. Late C19/early C20 metal casements. Plank door
right of principal gable in plain flush surround with gabled hood.
Roof with saddleback gable coping and moulded eaves cornice and
kneelers. Projecting, 4-flue stack in form of an 'X' from left
gable end.
Interior not inspected. One of a group of similar cottages
occupying a prominent position opposite Church of St. Mary (q.v.).
