yard of the Church of St. Paul clm
north of Shayler monument

Bale tomb. Probably to a member of the Shayler family. C17.
Limestone. Moulded base. North and south sides divided into 3
panels with raised margins. Central panel with raised oval at
centre with raised undecorated shield within. Raised palm leaf
decoration in panels to either side. Panel with narrow raised
margin at east end. Probable former inscription panel with raised
margin at west end now illegible. Flat-chamfered capping stone
with roll moulding around its lower edge. Semi-circular 'bale'
stone above with diagonal ribbing and simple incised decoration at
either end.
